Yong stepped off of the cramped shuttle and onto the space station. Man was he happy to be out of that thing. One month in that little tin can and he was ready to scream. Sharing a room with three other guys each night with only one shower and not even a single girl on board! The absurdity! He sighed then glanced around. The docking bay was nothing special though he noted that a few of the mechanisms seemed a bit out of date.
His eyes eventually landed on a series of signs that were trying far too hard to be professional, directing the new arrivals to their proper guides. The sign directing him to his own guide looked like it had been decorated by handing a five-year-old a bunch of stickers and telling him to make it look "spacey." It had a space ship in one corner, a bunch of gears in another, and a wrench slapped on it just for good measure. The words "Department of Technological Advancement" were a glowing dull orange. Neon lights? Really?
He rolled his eyes as he stepped up to the guide, letting out a "here," when his name was called. He then promptly tuned out every thing else the guide said. Blabbering on about the history of the station, why it was created, why they were here. He knew most of that any way, why bother listening? They stopped by the rooms, were allowed to drop off their things, and were then guided to where they would be working. Finally! What actually mattered!

Zoe pulled the plunger of the syringe up slowly, watching intently as reddish-pink liquid drained slowly out of the small jar in her other hand. A few well aimed taps to the side of the vial forced any stray air bubbles to the top and it was placed at the end of a row next to several others. Now where exactly had she left...Oh, right! She shoved a few papers to the side, fishing a cage out from underneath them. The animal inside-a rather unimpressive bird with stubby wings-chirped in annoyance and huddled into the back of its enclosure.
Her eyes narrowed and she undid the bolt on the cage, reaching under the bird and scooping it up. The creature made a noise of protest when the first needle went in to it. By the time they'd gotten to the last of them it had settled for some rather pointed glaring. If looks could kill... The bird was settled on the table and then they had to wait...and wait...and wait. No but really, why was it taking so long? Mack let out a bored "Meh-ing" sound and the scientist reached out to poke the fowl with her pen. It shot straight up into the air, nearly knocking her over in the process.
It promptly flew out of the rooms one open vent and into the hall. She rounded the corner out of the labs kept for the Department of Medicine, Behavior and genetics just in time to see the bird plummet. He looked winded for a moment looking one way and then the other. Then it took off like a shot, tiny legs moving surprisingly fast under its comparatively large body. "God damn it"

OOC~ I'm assuming that this takes place later the same day as the thread "Staff Room of Mingling". If not, let me know and I'll edit my post accordingly.Yao had managed to make himself more presentable since the incident earlier that morning in the break room. After all, he had a new recruit to impress upon, and he certainly didn't want anyone thinking he was some bum that they could slack off around. Oh no! Yao needed his underlings to take both him and their work for the AFN seriously. He made his way through to the Advanced Tech department, where the new comer had been assigned, so that he could introduce himself personally and assess the recruit. Even though their assignments had already been made for them based on entrance exams and the like, Yao still preferred to know who each new recruit was based on a personal introduction and meeting. There usually weren't that many recruited at a time, making it possible for Yao to get to know his workers. As he entered the department, a wave of nostalgia came over him, remembering entering this very room years ago with his, now AWOL, brother, Kiku. He couldn't help but think where and how he was. Yao was broken from his reverie by someone calling his name. "Major Wong? Do you have anything you'd like to say to our newest recruit?" Yao cleared his thoughts and his throat and was just about to say a few words of welcome, when a distinctively accented female voice let out a yell from out in the hall. "God damn it!"

Yong chuckled at the sudden exclamation, at the very least, it sounded like this department would be entertaining. He turned to look at the "Major Wong" who had just arrived. His eyes widened slightly. Was this the head of the head of the Division of Exploration and Discovery? Maybe praying to those Pekoponian gods at that pit stop on the way here was a good idea after all.
