(CHRYSANTHEMUMS ALL AROUND)
Player Name: importedasian, Julia, Ju-ju, CLINT
Character: Nihon! <3
Name: 本田菊 Honda Kiku
Age: 25
Affiliation: The Axis
Occupation and/or Rank: Resident techie and engineer, as well as co-pilot
Birthplace: Tokyo-3 (A space station in AFN registered space)
Appearance: Kiku is only about 5'5", with short cut black hair and dark brown eyes. He tends to keep his hair cut short, as he says it gets in the way, even though his bangs tend to get out of hand when he forgets to cut them. Normally, he’s found wearing a flight suit, though its usually only half on. He wears a long sleeve black turtle neck underneath. When he’s not actually working (which isn’t very often) he’s found wearing cargo pants and a white tank top, though the colors vary depending, especially if he has been tinkering for long periods of time and, well, the white tank top isn’t ALWAYS white. He also wears a white omamori, a kanai-anzen (to keep your family and household safe, or in his case, his fellow crewmates and ship safe) to be exact, which he replaces once a year.
Personality: Kiku is generally quiet, saying things only when he deems it necessary, at least, that's what he's like around people he doesn't trust. It’s hard to get him to open up to you, but when you do; he just keeps talking, especially when you get him on a topic he really enjoys. Particularly electronics, technology, games, anime, and, well, pop singers. He actually has a passion for fashion as well, and has a hidden closet filled with less than manly clothing. He doesn’t trust people very easily, but once you have his trust, it’s hard to lose it. He can be loyal to a fault, willingly risking his life for people he trusts and is loyal to.
AU History: Kiku was born and spent his early years on Tokyo-3, raised by his father, Sujin, a very eccentric man who taught at a nearby university and his mother, Himiko, a house wife who raised Kiku those first few years. However, when he turned five, his mother seemingly just...disappeared. There was no note, no sign of he leaving, nothing, she just...left. Kiku's father was devastated, and it showed. He still worked of course, but there wasn't much...motivation to it, it was as if Kiku's father was just going through the motions.
Due to his father's distance, Kiku was left alone most of the time, though a neighbor would come and check on him often. At first, Kiku spent a lot of his time just...sitting, playing with his toys or watching TV, but after a while, all of this got extremely boring and he wished for something more interesting. After realizing he couldn't just have that new interesting thing he wanted, he decided to make it. Thus began Kiku's long career of tinkering. He'd find anything in the house, _anything_, to take apart and put back together, either exactly the same as it was, or better than it had been.
At first, Kiku's father didn't notice much, but that changed fairly quickly once he noticed new toys appearing in the house, or a faulty electronic he always promised himself he'd fix, already fixed. It was then, that Kiku noticed his father get, well, happier. When Kiku made or fixed things, Kiku's father was happy, and Kiku liked that, so he made and fixed more and more things, till Sujin stopped buying Kiku toys, and just started bringing home any spare or broken part he could, giving Kiku things to work with.
Kiku's skill with mechanical things grew and grew, flourishing when he entered school. He wowed his teachers with his skills with his hands, and even more so with his intelligence, Everything was going well. Kiku was happy because his father was happy because Kiku was smart and could fix and make things and understand technology on a level that no one else seemed to.
That is, until his father met another woman, who had an extremely intelligent son of her own, named Yao. Kiku's father and this new woman, hit it off immediately and they spent their time away from home, working or playing or whatever it is that they do. Leaving Kiku alone with his may-as-well-be step brother. At first, Kiku was hesitant, he didn't do well with new people and remained shy and reserved around this boy with the long hair. But after a while, he opened up, especially after Yao showed that he understood technology the same way Kiku did. That did it. Suddenly Kiku and Yao were the best of friends, sharing secrets on how to make this work, or how to tinker with that properly, or how they tried this, and it didn't work, but it was still fun all the same. Kiku's father had found a bride in this new woman, and Kiku had found a best friend and brother in Yao.
This relationship grew; the two grew closer and closer the more time they spent with each other, and both boys graduated from high school, top of their class, together of course, because their grades were practically exact copies of one another. And of course, it was no surprise when both of them went into the AFN, working for the technology division and quickly gaining recognition and fame with their skills and intelligence. It seemed like the perfect life really. Everything was going so perfectly well. Kiku's father was happy with his new wife and Kiku was happy with Yao and his job and...well...everything.
But then, there wouldn't be a story if there wasn't some sort of tragedy would there? And there was, sort of, more of a...curious accident that caused a series of events that would lead to Kiku leaving his family behind. Long story short, Kiku and Yao were working on individual projects, Kiku had no idea what Yao's was, and Kiku thought Yao had no idea what his was. So Kiku worked, on a project that would help the AFN fly and fight better, but when the project was tested, and when the people around him were questioning him about his skills and knowledge, something went wrong. The alarms started blaring, his tech didn't work, and all of a sudden, his personal computer began hacking the AFN database, something Kiku COULD do of course, but would never even dream of.
Or at least thought he wouldn't.
But still, the proof was there, Kiku was arrested for the attempted stealing of data from the AFN mainframe, and was accused of using his skills and new tech as a decoy so he had time to hack and steal all the information for whatever branch he was spying for.
And Yao didn't say a word in his defense.
Actually, it seemed like Yao was flourishing in Kiku's absence. His tech won over Kiku's, he was promoted, and Kiku was thrown in jail.
But there's a silver lining to this cloud, because despite Kiku's dire state, he was still Kiku, and he managed to hack his way out of prison, get back to his apartment, gather as much as he could in the five minute window he had to get his things before someone noticed him and he left, stowing away on a merchant ship that was transporting people less than legally off of the station.
He drifted for a while, using his grandfather's name as an alias, Honda Nobutada, before coming across a certain ship that would change the course of his life. He found the captain on the station he was drifting on, arguing with some dealer about his parts, and politely intervened, proving to the captain of said ship that the dealer was lying, his parts were faulty, and Kiku could fix everything up in a matter of minutes given the correct tools, all in the span of ten minutes.
Ten minutes is alot of time in deciding your fate it seemed.
So now, he lives on the Axis Ship, working as a helmsman and tinkering with this and that and fixing everything that needs to be fixed.
Equipment: He keeps his palm pilot on him at all times, which he can use as a communicator, computer, hacking device, camera, as well as even using it to create an EMP, small in size, but still deadly for technology within a set radius around him. He also keeps a katana on him, clay stained, with sakura and chrysanthemum intertwined on the hilt and handle, as well as the sheath. It was passed down to him when he graduated high school. He doesn’t know how old the blade is.
Any other info: Kiku’s favorite past times actually include cooking and cleaning for everyone on the Axis ship. His favorite dishes include curry, noodles (ramen, udon, soba), sashimi, and any kind of nabe. He has a HUGE sweet tooth as well, and usually has candy on him if not traditional Japanese sweets that he makes himself. He has a few scars, all of which are hidden when he is clothed. The worst of which is a burn on the right side of his chest, and another similar burn on the left side of his stomach. He hasn't really told anyone where the burns came from. His hands are also pretty scarred, but that's all from tinkering and playing with machinery and tech.
