His precise occupation is not widely known, as it is the nature of Division V to withhold information where it is not necessary. All one needs to know is that he’s pretty high up there, and has a lot of freedom within the division.
Birthplace: Space Colony of the Russian Federation
Appearance: Along with the rest of the AFN, dur hur~
Physically, Ivan takes after his father, standing fairly tall and having a large-boned structure. Like most of those of Slavic descent, his nose has a rather distinct shape and is probably the most prominent feature on his face, aside from his noticeably violet tinted eyes. He has a bit of a boyish face for his age, which looks a bit out of place atop his broad shoulders.
Personality: Typically quiet and introvertive, Ivan tends to stay to the back of conversations, observing the others present. When he does speak it’s kindly and oftentimes with a childlike simplicity. However, this hides a cracked mentality and a complex tangle of paranoia which dictates most of Ivan’s actions. It’s very rare, even when agitated, that he’s ever seen without a pleasant expression, which gives him an unintentionally intimidating air. He can be very cunning and at times sadistic, though at the center of his actions is a desire to be loved and appreciated by those around him. He just goes about it in the oddest of ways.
AU History: Ivan grew up on RFSC-4 I would have the Cyrillic but this site hates it. ono, a space colony of the Russian Federation. It was jokingly called “Space Siberia” because of the climate controls’ annoying tendency to malfunction or break down entirely, which resulted much cooler temperatures between the times when the back-up system provided less than efficient compensation. His childhood wasn’t the best. His mother died when he was still fairly young, and because he was the only son in his family, his father continually pressured him to succeed and do well. Though, his father wasn’t around all that often. As an officer in the AFN’s Armed Division, he was rarely home.
The Russian Federation, atypical of other countries, made a concerted effort to manage their space colonies fairly similarly. For example, all the colonies have two different educational systems; one for normal education, and another track specifically designed for those intent on entering the AFN by their graduation, a branch of Earth's AFN Academy. Within the AFN Academy, those meant to enter the Armed Division are put on another, more physically demanding route. This training begins at an early age, and Ivan’s father was eager to get him started. However, Ivan’s reserved personality was not well suited for the intense Armed Division training. The officer in charge was quite intimidating to Ivan, and belittled him and made an example of him at every opportunity (which also caused the other children to mock and exclude him). After a couple years, this was taking a visible toll on Ivan’s mentality, so his father begrudgingly removed him from the Armed Division program. He continued the rest of his education through the AFN Academy, remaining somewhat isolated from the other students. It was because of his observant nature, however, that an instructor recommended he take the concentration that would place him in Division V, the AFN’s central intelligence organization.
As he was nearing graduation, he received a notification that his mother’s niece-- his cousin, Nataliya-- was in police custody back on earth. She had been detained for criminal reasons, but it was found that the girl’s parents had passed some thirteen months prior, and so the officers were attempting to notify her next of kin in hopes of finding someone to care for her. Of course, Ivan’s mother had passed years ago (and his father could care less either way), so Ivan took it upon himself to reply and have Nataliya brought up to the space colony. She…rather took this the wrong way though, and became extremely attached to her older cousin, thinking that he had saved her in some way. This was an affection which…disturbed Ivan more than anything, and even now, he attempts to avoid her whenever possible.
As a member of Division V, Ivan began in the lower ranks, doing reconnaissance work within his own space colony. He was eventually promoted and transferred to AFN Central, where he continued to show talent and rise fairly quickly through the ranks. This was also where he met Ludwig Beillschmidt, an officer in the Armed Division. They had ended up working closely on several missions, and the two became friends. Ivan even started offering Ludwig some inside information to give him an edge on missions. When Ludwig was successively promoted rather quickly, Ivan felt a bit slighted and used by the other, mostly due to his own paranoia than anything. He felt as if Ludwig wasn’t giving him enough credit. It was around this time that Ivan ran into Alfred F. Jones, an outgoing, if at times annoying young recruit in the Armed Division whose unassuming and positive nature was an interesting alternative to Ludwig’s personality and made Ivan somewhat confused and curious.
Ivan’s friendship with Ludwig continued for him to mentally deteriorate, though he never let any of it show. It reached a breaking point when a critical miscommunication occurred on a mission revolving around an asteroid mining dispute and troops where mistakenly sent to the wrong side. Ivan, a higher-up in Division V by now, was reprimanded for it not only by his commanders, but by Ludwig as well. This comment was actually nothing more than an off-hand statement over a few drinks after the fact, but for Ivan, it was the last straw. Using his access to Division V’s computers and inside information, he created a scenario that would show Ludwig he was not to be trifled with.
In the end, Ludwig was blamed for a crime he didn’t commit, stripped of his rank and discharged from the AFN. Ivan was also able to pull a few strings and get Alfred promoted in his place. However, because of the American’s spunky, egotistical nature, those same feeling of being used and underappreciated began to come into play. Deciding that he wasn’t going to go through the same scenario a second time, Ivan has begun using his resources to find a way to stay one step ahead of Alfred before he can cross him.
Equipment: Ivan prefers hand to hand combat over guns. He carries a custom energy weapon called the P.I.P.E, which is small, easily concealed handle that can project a variety of different energy-based weapons. His preferred mode, though, is to use it as a simple blunt object, much like a nightstick, though he’s been known to use it as a whip on a few different occasion. He also has a few other concealed weapons on his body, such as a small laser pistol and a few throwing knives.
Any other info: Because of Ivan’s experience on his home space colony, he's developed a dislike for cold temperatures, prefering to be uncomfortably warm than even the least bit chilly. Also, as a result of his early military training, Ivan has what could be called a phobia of holo-rooms/decks. They were used to give a more realistic feel in practice, which Ivan didn't do so well with, so he'll tend to avoid them if at all possible. He...doesn’t really care that much for noodles either. His observation skills are also top notch, and he has a very keen ability to be able to read people’s faces and guess what they’re thinking. This does and doesn’t do so well for his paranoia.
Also if you didn't catch the noodle reference that she wrote, here it is. Noodle noodle noodle.
