Personality: Tino is described as being simplistic, gentle, and honest, as well seeming rather adult-like. He's very talkative, especially around Berwald, thinking up jokes to lighten the atmosphere. He loves to go to interesting and unusual festivals, and actually likes the taste of salmiakki. He also happens to love saunas, and the Moomins. Though he usually looks and acts cheerful, he's suffered through a very hard childhood and sometimes slips into fits of depression, especially when he's drunk on too much vodka.
AU History: Tino is a second-generation inhabitant of New Karelia, a Finnish colony branching off a larger conglomeration of other Scandinavian colonies. New Karelia, like the old Karelia, has a very high Russian population. Unfortunately, it's the ghetto Russian population. Tino's mother was a pretty Finnish girl with large dreams for herself and her maybe-half-Russian baby, but all her dreams ended in tragedy when she was mistakenly shot by a member of the Russian mafia. Just a child, Tino ended up being passed around to various obscure Swedish, Finnish, and Russian relatives, none of whom seemed to care much about the tiny boy with the huge heart.
As a young teen, Tino volunteered to join the Karelian militia, and made a name for himself sniping intruders (and once, a man rumored to be involved with the murder of a young native Karelian woman) with deadly precision and the highest kill-rate unseen by a single Finnish soldier since Simo Hayha. Unfortunately, Tino suffered a grievous injury not-unlike Hayha, with an enemy beam shaving off the right part of his temple, taking his eye with. He was discharged from the militia and sent to recuperate at home. He spiraled into a seeming incurable depression, due to his lack of depth perception and cash for a replacement eye preventing him from doing much more than be a loading boy for a trading company underneath the AFN. It wasn't until one night at a bar that he met Ludwig, the captain of the Axis. The two drank for a bit and struck a deal. He would supply Tino with a new cybernetic eye in exchange for help in smuggling supplies from the AFN to the Axis. Tino readily agreed and now boasts a reconstructed, cyber eye in his right eye-socket, typically covered by an eye patch, to avoid questions as to how a poor loading boy managed to acquire the highest-grade implants.
With his new eye, Tino's sniping skills not only haven't left him, but have increased in ferocity, but he only uses it in self-defense. Or if you pay him. Yes, Tino is a gun-for-hire (both AFN or Axis, he's largely neutral to both), if you know where to ask. Otherwise, he's your perky, cheerful, always on time, highly professional transport pilot.
Equipment: Cybernetic eye, small bolt pistol at his left hip, a flask on the right. Two high caliber sniper rifles, one that shoots good old-fashioned lead and one newer, high-tech laser rifle. He also carries around a seemingly endless supply of salmiakki for Hanatamago and himself.
Any other info: Tino's most beloved companion is Hanatamago, a white, non-descript puffball. Hana-chan is usually seen perched on Tino's shoulder. He apparently has a mouth somewhere, and a multitude of spiny leggies buried somewhere in the white fluff. It's unclear if he eats the Finn's food because he likes it (unlikely) or because he... well, he eats anything. Tino found the little cotton ball huddling in a pile of snow near a dumpster one winter night and absolutely fell in love. He adores cute things (and has a very special fondness for childen, especially orphans) so he immediate took Hana-chan home with him. With some slightly painful cuddles and a bowl of blueberry soup, Hana-chan was his loyal friend forever.
Tino loves noodles, he often eats them cold for breakfast when he's running low on cash. Which is always.
